Getting ready for Christmas

Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas! We are getting ready for Christmas at the Mortensen home! Josh was in the Manassa Elementary Christmas Operetta last Thursday. He was a toy solider and then a wise man. On Saturday we went on the Polar Express. Just our luck we broke down twice, but we still had a great time. To all of our friends and family, Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year!

Batteries Melissa Batteries

We finally got to go on vacation to Mexico, where we didn't have to work on the house down there, and guess what? The batteries to my video camera and digital camera were both dead. Nice!
On the positive side it was worth the hours in the car and trying to keep my nerves in check. We had thirteen people in a two bedroom / one bath house but somehow it worked.
My great vacation started on Saturday, November 22, A bunch of my favorite girls i.e. Mom, TJ, Pam + three and my sister-in-law Shauntre went and saw Twilight. So I'm still very much in love with Edward. LOVED the MOVIE.
On Sunday we went to our sweet little San Luis branch and got ready to go.
On Monday we left my Mom's house at 6:30 A.M. for Mesa. Riding in the truck is not much fun, but thanks to ALI I laughed for about six hours straight. In Mesa we were able to see Kent's sister Bev and have dinner with her. The kids were in the swimming pool for hours!
On Tuesday I finally met one of my life long goals. I went to the Mesa Temple. BEAUTIFUL. We went through the 6:00 morning session on Tuesday and it was full! They are busy all day long. Way to go AZ! We had breakfast and then left for Guaymas. We stopped in Hermisillo at Kent's favorite taco stand YUMMY! We made it to our house about 6:00 that night and everyone pretty much crashed.
On Wednesday we went to the beach, and ate at Charlie's Rock. They have the best seafood. We played at the beach for a long time, watching my Grandma explain the little sea "things" to Josh and Emery was the best!
On Thursday we went out on a boat for deep sea fishing, and I get sea sick for the first time. I wasn't the only one though, My mom, Pam, Grandma, Josh, and TJ all got super sick. They finally brought the boat back to a protected cove and let us recover. We went scuba diving and snorkeling. That night we had our own version of Thanksgiving. Lobster and shrimp with mashed potatoes and gravy, beans and cheese, tortillas, and Tres Leche cake for dessert.
On Friday we went to the Mercado and shopped!
On Saturday we drove until 4:00 A.M. Sunday to make it back in time for church.
So much fun but I am so tired!

Josh's Birthday!

We had so many parties for Josh's birthday! On Saturday the 25th (after I confused most of the parents with my invitations) we had Josh's "Friend" party. We had so much fun. They played games that I loved when I was little, went on a treasure hunt and had cake and ice cream. The best part was watching TJ ride Josh's dirt bike, but she made me promise that I wouldn't post the pictures :(. On Sunday we had the birthday base with to celebrate TJ and Josh's birthday. We ate and ate at my moms and then played football. On Tuesday, Josh's actual birthday I had everyone over for soup and rolls. I felt horrible that day, but I learned the next day at the doctor that the stomach bacteria I caught last year (it's a great one, it stays with you until you die, and goes into remission with medicine) was back, and that I had taken the wrong medicine so my ulcer had grown for an entire year! Fun!

Halloween

This year Josh dressed up as a foot ball player, but oh the drama. He thought that the football pads made him look fat. Kent had to talk to him for along time to get him to wear it.

Emery decided at the very last minute that she wanted to be a witch. So she was a princess witch!

Family Pics

We took family pictures two weeks ago. LeeAnn Gartrell took them and they are so great! I can't post any of them here dangit! Being that we are true rednecks, we took them in front of the haystack, (in my defense, I loved the colors and the textures) with our horse. The horse was Kent's idea. Shadow didn't smile. I did snap a picture of Emery before we started.

Soccer!
This year Josh decided he wanted to try soccer.
He had the best time. McKay Russell was on his team and we car pooled. Josh's last game was on Saturday. They only lost one game the entire season (a whopping six weeks). They aren't suppose to keep track of the score, just like tee-ball, but Josh would yell out the score after every goal! We need to work on sportsmanship. His coach was great, he gave each player a personalized soccer trophy and certificate.
Go mini-moose.
A sidenote:
I'm feeling a little sorry for my kids.
We live in Sanford - have lots and lots of Indian attire
He now goes to school in Manassa - cannot wear Indian attire-Josh doesn't understand this
We go to San Luis for church - Josh and Emery aren't liking this one
He plays soccer for Alamosa - mini-moose
What color am I supposed to dress him in? :)

Motorcycle chica

THURSDAY

Why I Dance?

To set my soul free of the restrictions I put on myself

To let others feel the joy that I do

To feel the music as very few people ever take the time too

So my students will have a glimpse of the finer things in life

So my daughter will have self confidence

and because dance gives me life

What the Heck TJ

So I get on today to look at all of my favorite blogs, and much to my surprise TJ's is invitation only. So can I get an invite or what? Yesterday I was down with the stomach flu all day, but today is much better. Kent's birthday went well. I think he enjoyed himself. TJ I want my invite ASAP

Monday, October 13, 2008

So today is Monday Yuck! Tomorrow is Kent's birthday, and still haven't picked out a present for him yet. Oh well. Yesterday we went to the San Luis Branch for the first time. I think we are really going to like it over there. Josh didn't have school today. He is having a Grandma day, and much to his dislike, Emery got to go too! I went with my mom to Ali's volleyball game on Friday night. She did really well. It was great to sit with my mom and laugh. We haven't done that in so long. I am so grateful that she is my mom!

October 3rd, 2008

What to write about? I'm still trying to not panic over every little thing! It is a day to day struggle. Time for a little pity party (I'm only inviting myself ) :). I'm still trying to figure out why I have to struggle with what happened twenty one years ago every day for the rest of my life. It effects everything I do, and think. I guess I would wish for a day without the baggage?!. My kids are doing great! We still have work! I need to stop dwelling on me and remember how blessed I am. Will try harder.... I'm still worried about a lot of things, and I'm trying to make sense of even more things.
